Best e-liquids for new vapers

If you’re just getting started with vaping, finding the right flavours and nicotine strength is one of the most important steps to successfully making the switch from smoking to vaping.

The Ohm Brew 50/50 range is absolutely ideal for new vapers, as there are over forty different flavours to choose from, including options from every different flavour category, so you are bound to find a flavour that you love. They also have a wide range of nicotine strengths, allowing you to select the one that best reflects the nicotine intake you are used to from smoking, to help you manage your nicotine cravings effectively as you make the switch. The nic salt formula offers an extremely smooth inhale, even at higher nicotine levels, making them comfortable to use and helping them quickly satisfy cravings. They also offer selected flavours in a nicotine-free option, ideal for those who prefer a zero nicotine vape juice.

The Vampire Vape range is also a fantastic option for those who are new to vaping. They offer a wide range of flavours and nicotine strengths, and their purple capped bottles are made using freebase nicotine. Freebase is known for offering a throat hit, which many people associate with the feel of smoking a cigarette.

E-liquids which taste like disposable vapes

If you have been using disposable vapes and are now looking to transition to a refillable vape kit, bar salts are an excellent vape juice option to consider. These e-liquids have been specifically designed to taste like all the most popular disposable vape flavours, offering the same great taste in any compatible e-cigarette.

The ELFLIQ range is comprised of 22 delicious flavour options, and are actually the same e-liquids that you will find in the popular Elf Bar 600 disposable vapes. They are also available in a choice of a 10 mg/ml or 20 mg/ml nicotine strength, and have a 50/50 formula that pairs perfectly with starter kits and pod systems.

Similarly, the SKE Crystal Salts range is manufactured by the same company that makes Crystal Bar disposable vapes, so they are the same e-liquids and the same great flavours that you can find inside some of your favourite disposable vapes. This allows you to keep using the flavours you love, but in a device that can be repeatedly refilled, making it both more budget-friendly and more environmentally friendly than continuing to use disposables.

Best high VG e-liquids

If you are using a sub-ohm or advanced vape kit, your device will pair best with a high VG e-liquid, which offers larger cloud production and are often available in short fill bottles which contain more than 10ml of e-liquid.

The Ohm Brew Badass Blends range is a big favourite when it comes to high VG vape juice, due to their wide and varied flavour range, which includes everything from tobacco flavours to candy flavours. You can also find many of the most popular Ohm Brew 50/50 flavours in this range, so as you transition from a starter kit to a more advanced vape kit, you can still enjoy the flavours you know and love.

The Badass Blends range is available in 50ml short fills, which hold 50ml of nicotine free e-liquid in a 60ml bottle, leaving room for the addition of a nicotine shot if preferred. But they also offer the Badass XL range which lets you pick up the same great flavours in a 100ml short fill, so you can stock up on your favourites.

E-liquid FAQ

What is e-liquid?

E-liquids, also known as vape juice, are a specially designed fluid used in e-cigarettes. The coil inside an e-cigarette heats up and vaporises the e-liquid, this vapour can then be inhaled. E-liquids are made up of three main ingredients, vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol, and food grade flavourings, and can also contain nicotine depending on the preferences of the user.

E liquids are available in a variety of different flavours, nicotine strengths, and formulas, to help the user find the one that best suits their preferences, device, and previous smoking habits. Although e-liquids are available without nicotine, as e-cigarettes are often used by people as an alternative to smoking, many opt for a vape juice containing nicotine to keep their cravings at bay during their stop smoking journey.

What is VG & PG in e-liquid?

VG and PG are the two main ingredients in e-liquids, usually making up around 80% of the overall e-liquid composition. Depending on the e liquid type, VG and PG are found in different ratios making each e-liquid best suited to different types of vaping device.

VG stands for vegetable glycerine, and is commonly used in a number of food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical products such as toothpaste, soaps, ice cream, and cough medicines. It has a consistency similar to syrup and has a slightly sweet taste. In e-liquids, VG is responsible for the vapour production.

PG, or propylene glycol, has a thinner consistency like water, and is also found in many food and cosmetic products. In e-liquids, PG is used as the carrier for flavourings, to ensure that the flavour is consistent throughout the e-liquid.

What is e-liquid flavouring?

E-liquids contain natural, food grade flavourings that allow for the countless different vape liquid flavours available. Having lots of different flavours to choose from helps make vaping more enjoyable and finding a flavour that you love makes you more likely to keep picking up your e-cigarette and not return to smoking.

Flavourings usually make up 5-20% of the overall e-liquid, as alone they are extremely concentrated and would not taste good or be the appropriate consistency for vaping, thus the need to be diluted with VG and PG.

All e-liquid flavourings must be tested and approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) before they can be used in commercial e-liquids.

What does e-liquid contain?

E-liquids contain three main ingredients, vegetable glycerine (VG), propylene glycol (PG), and food grade flavourings. These ingredients all combine to produce a fluid known as vape juice that can be safely vaporised and inhaled.

VG and PG make up the bulk of the e liquid, but alone have very little flavour. VG is responsible for the vapour production in an e-liquid and thickens it to a consistency that is well absorbed by coils. PG is used as a carrier for e-liquid flavourings and ensures that the liquid remains well mixed, and the flavour doesn’t separate.

E-liquids can be purchased with or without nicotine depending on the user’s preference. In the UK e-liquids containing nicotine are not available with a nicotine strength higher than 20 mg/ml.

What is a short fill e-liquid?

In the UK, nicotine containing e-liquids are not allowed to be sold in bottles larger than 10 ml. Short fill e-liquids allow vapers to purchase their e-liquid in larger bottles with a nicotine free formula.

Short fill e-liquids are commonly sold with 50ml or 100ml of e-liquid and are so called because they are filled short of the top of the bottle to leave room for the addition of nicotine if needed. For example, a 50ml short fill will contain 50ml of nicotine free e-liquid in a 60ml bottle, leaving room for the addition of one 10ml 18 mg/ml nicotine shot. Once added, this will result in 60ml of 3 mg/ml e-liquid.

What are the different types of e-liquid?

You will often hear about high VG or VG/PG 50/50 e-liquids, which contain different ratios of VG and PG to change the consistency of the overall e-liquid. High VG vape juice contains more VG than PG and has a thicker consistency that is best suited to sub-ohm devices. Whereas, 50/50 e-liquids contain an equal ratio of VG and PG with a thinner consistency, that is best used with starter kits and pod systems.

There are also different nicotine formulas available. Freebase nicotine e-liquids use an alkaline based nicotine which offers the throat hit that many ex-smokers associate with smoking. Whereas, nicotine salt e-liquids have an acidic base which offers smoother inhale, even at high nicotine strengths, and is absorbed into the blood stream a bit faster than freebase nicotine. Which type of nicotine you choose is entirely personal preference and what feels most comfortable for you.

How much does e-liquid cost?

The cost of a bottle of e-liquid depends mainly on the size of the e-liquid. 10ml bottles of vape juice usually cost around £4 – 5 per bottle, but are also often available in deals like 3 bottles for £10, allowing you to stock up on your favourites for less.

Short fill e-liquids tend to be a little more expensive, because you are getting substantially more e-liquid in the bottle. 50ml short fills are usually available for between £13 – 15, and 100ml short fills can usually be picked up for between £15 – 20. Typically, the larger the bottle you buy, the more cost effective it is. However, you can also take a look in our sale e-liquids section where you may be able to get them at an even lower cost!

What strength vape juice should I use?

It is important to try and match the strength of your e-liquid to the nicotine intake your body is used to. We usually recommend using how many cigarettes you used to smoke per day as a good place to start with selecting an e-liquid strength.

If you were a very light smoker who smoked less than 5 cigarettes per day, or an infrequent or social smoker, a 3 mg/ml or even a nicotine free e-liquid would be a good place to start. If you used to smoke between 5 – 10 cigarettes a day we recommend a 6 mg/ml nicotine strength. Those who smoked 10 – 15 cigarettes a day should try a 12 mg/ml nicotine strength, and heavy smokers who smoked 15+ cigarettes a day should try an 18 mg/ml or 20 mg/ml nicotine strength. You can always move up or down a strength if you feel it is needed.

If you want more information about choosing your nicotine level, take a look at our blog post ‘Which strength e-liquid should I use?’

What are the types of nicotine?

There are two different types of nicotine that are used in e-liquid; freebase and nic salts. They are each characterised by the different vaping experience they offer, making them suitable for different types of vaper.

Freebase nicotine offers a throat hit which intensifies the higher the nicotine strength is, this is perfect for those vapers who prefer an e-liquid with a throat hit which is reminiscent of smoking a cigarette for them. On the other hand, nic salt e-liquids are known for their extremely smooth inhale, even at high strengths. This is perfect for those who find a throat hit too harsh.

Is vaping without nicotine safe?

The Office for Health Improvement & Disparities have found vaping to be at least 95% less harmful than smoking, and this is applicable to both nicotine containing and nicotine free e-liquids. If you are using an e-cigarette as an alternative to smoking, this is a substantially less harmful option, however they are not recommended for those who have never been smokers.

Using a nicotine free e-liquid not only eliminates the countless toxic chemicals that are in cigarette smoke, but also does not cause the stimulant type affects that nicotine induce. This makes them a great option for those who were light or infrequent smokers and feel they do not need a nicotine content to help them manage nicotine cravings, but would like an e-cigarette to help them replace the physical act of smoking.

What are the best vape juice flavours?

E-liquids are available in countless different flavours, but which one will be best for you really depends on what kind of flavours you tend to prefer. There are lots of different categories for flavours, such as fruit, candy, beverages, desserts, menthols, and tobaccos.

If you are unsure which flavour you should choose, we recommend starting with some of your favourite flavours, such as your favourite fruit or favourite candy. From there you can experiment with more adventurous flavours to find which ones you like the best.

Can I use any brand of e-liquid in my vape?

Yes, you can use any brand of e-liquid with your vape kit, and there are so many high quality e-liquid brands within our range, like Ohm Brew, ELFLIQ, and Vampire Vape. The important thing to consider when choosing an e-liquid is whether the e-liquid formula is compatible with your particular device.

For example, starter vape kits and pod systems usually pair best with a 50/50 or high PG e-liquid, while sub-ohm and advanced vape kits tend to work better with a high VG e-liquid. If you are unsure about which one would be best for your device why not take a look at our blog post ‘How do I choose the right e-liquid?’

What is the best vape juice brand?

There are so many different e-liquid brands to choose from, but which one will work best for you really depends on your own personal preference.

Our range is made up of countless high quality vape juice brands, including some of the most popular brands like Ohm Brew, ELFLIQ, Double Brew Bar Series, and IVG. We recommend taking a look at all of the top-notch e-liquid options we have to offer to see which ones catch your eye.

How do you store e-liquids?

If you have spare e-liquids that you don’t need to take out and about with you, the best way to store them is in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight and high temperatures. This will help the ensure the e-liquid consistency doesn’t change due to heat, and that they will maintain a great, strong flavour.

Although e-liquid bottles have child-safe caps, similar to those found on medicine bottles, we also recommend keeping your e-liquid bottles out of the reach of children and pets.
