Since the introduction of TPD for e-cigarettes and e-liquids in May 2016, we can no longer sell large bottles of e-liquid with a nicotine content.

Fortunately, nic shots are a convenient way of adding your own nicotine to e-liquids. In this post we will explain how to use nic shots.

What Are Nic Shots?

Nic shots are 10ml bottles with a high nicotine content, often 18mg but sometimes the maximum of 20mg, which are used to add nicotine to existing e-liquids.

The nicotine is mixed with an unflavoured base of VG and PG and can come in high VG and 50:50 ratio mixes.

There are also iced nic shots, which in addition to adding nicotine adds a cool menthol chill to the e-liquid.

Nic shots can be made using both free-base nicotine or nic salts.

What Are Shortfills?

Eliquid Shortfills are large bottles of e-liquid which come as a 0mg mix, but with room for a nic shot.

For example, the e-liquid will come in a 60ml bottle, but only be filled with 50ml of juice. This leaves 10ml of room for a nic shot to be added.

How to Mix Them

Mixing the two couldn’t be simpler, however, it is not legal for the shop assistant who sold you the e-liquid and nic shot to mix them for you, this is something you need to do yourself.

You simply need to pour the whole bottle of nic shot (you can use less if you would like a lower nicotine strength) into the shortfill bottle of e-liquid, replace the cap, then give the e-liquid a really good shake. It is very important to shake the liquid, as the thick consistency of e-liquid means that the nic shot is likely to just sit on top and not mix well throughout.

Although the nic shot itself is an 18mg, once it is diluted by the e-liquid it is added to, one 18mg nic shot will make 50ml of e-liquid into 60ml of 3mg e-liquid.

Although it is possible to add more than one nic shot to an e-liquid to make the a 6mg, we do not always recommend this as it would require you to decant the e-liquid to make room for the extra nic shot, and it can dilute the flavour of the juice.

It is also important to remember that a larger bottle will require more than one nic shot and a smaller bottle may require less than one whole nic shot.
