As the weather gets warmer most of us will be spending much more time outside. Whether it’s because of work or just to enjoy the sun, that usually means that your vape kit will be spending more time in the sun too. In this post we will be giving some summer vaping tips to help you vape safely in the sun and take care of your vape during the warmer weather.
Storing your vape kit and batteries in summer
Vape kits utilise lithium-ion batteries, also known as li-ion batteries, which are commonly used in many portable electronics like mobile phones, laptops, and tablets. This is because they are powerful while maintaining a small, compact size, and can undergo hundreds of recharge cycles before noticeably degrading. However, like most batteries they need to be stored in the right conditions to ensure they are safe and can function properly.
Keep your e-cig out of the sun
A crucial thing to remember with both built-in and external vape batteries is that they do not like temperature extremes, which means leaving it in direct sunlight at the height of summer is definitely not a good idea!
Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause your e-cigarette to get quite hot, which can make the battery inside dangerous to use. When the battery inside gets too hot it can vent, which could cause harm to you, those around you, or to the environment.
If you’re partial to a spot of sunbathing it is really import to make sure you keep your vape in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight where it is safe from high temperatures. This also applies when it is charging, as it is easy to leave your vape plugged in on a window ledge or in a hot car where it may end up getting too hot without realising.
Always keep your vape dry
During the summer many people will take more trips to the seaside and swimming pools, and like most other electronic items, vapes should not be allowed to get wet. Although some vapes may be advertised to have some water-resistance, it is always best to keep it as dry as possible out of caution.
If you’re going to be making any visits to a pool or beach this summer make sure to store your vape in a place where it can remain dry, or if possible in a carry case for an extra layer of protection. If your vape device or batteries do get wet we would not recommend continuing to use them.
How to safely store vapes and batteries while out and about
It’s likely that during the summer months you will be out and about much more than usual, weather you’re on vacation, visiting sightseeing spots, or just getting out to enjoy some fresh air. This likely means your vape, and for external battery users some spare batteries, will be accompanying you on these adventures.
Whether you are storing your vape in your pocket or in the depths of your bag, it is always a good idea to turn it off or lock it when not in use. This helps to avoid the power button being accidentally depressed without you realising, which can not only risk burning out your coil very quickly but could also lead your vape to get very hot.
If you are carrying spare batteries, it is always best to store them in a plastic case or silicone sleeve, which will not only protect them from damage but also prevent them from coming into contact with other metallic objects which could cause them to vent, like keys or loose change. Can you take a vape abroad with you?
If you’re planning on taking a holiday abroad this summer, it is important to think about how your vape will factor in.
Check the local laws
The laws around vaping vary from country to country, and while we are lucky to have excellent regulations that allow vapes to be easily accessible to adults in the UK, that is not the case everywhere.
While some countries like Germany and New Zealand have laws that are very comparable to those in the UK, there are others like Thailand and South Korea where vaping is illegal. Making sure you know the laws around vaping in your chosen holiday location is crucial to avoid any unpleasant surprises once you are there.
Although we highly recommend doing your own research as laws are constantly changing across the globe, we have a blog post outlining the vaping laws in other countries which can be a good place to start.
Taking vapes on a plane
The majority of airlines will allow vapes to be brought on the plane, but there are common restrictions around how they can be carried. For example, your vape kit will need to be stored in your hand luggage and not in your checked luggage, as will any spare batteries you have with you. You can also take e-liquid in your hand luggage, but it is important to remember that as a liquid they will have to be in bottles of 100ml or less and stored in a clear plastic bag.
When it comes to vaping at the airport you will need to follow the same rules as smokers and you will need to visit the designated smoking and vaping areas, but remember that these may not be available once you have checked in for your flight, and you will not be able to use your vape on the plane.
Some airlines even classify charging your device on the plane as use, so make sure it is charged before your flight to avoid confiscation. We also recommend keeping your tank or pod as empty as possible for the plane journey, as the changes in pressure can cause the e-liquid to leak out. If you have any concerns you can contact your airline or check their website to see the specific rules they have for vaping products.
If you are taking a long-haul flight and are concerned about managing nicotine cravings during the journey, you might want to consider an alternative option like nicotine pouches or strips which can be used during your flight.

Will I be able to buy vape accessories and e-liquid abroad?
We always recommend trying to ensure you bring all of the e-liquid and vaping accessories you may need with you on your trip, as well as a bit extra if possible. This is because, even in countries where vaping is common, you may not be able to find the exact products you need while abroad. For example, if your coil burns out unexpectedly, you may find local vape shops do not stock the ones you need, which could put quite the dampener on your holiday.
We also recommend bringing a bit more than you think you will need, not only will this cover you should you misplace a bottle of e-liquid or have a coil burn out prematurely, but it is common for people to find they vape more during leisure time, so this way you won’t run out.
Other factors to consider during summer
The hot weather can bring with it some other considerations for vapers:
Stay hydrated
Vaping can make you a bit more dehydrated, which could be especially prominent during the warmer weather. Make sure you are keeping yourself hydrated throughout the day, especially if you are spending a lot of time in the sun.
Your e-liquid may look different
The heat can also have an effect on the consistency of your e-liquid, making it thinner than usual. This shouldn’t usually cause any issues as long as you are using the correct ratio e-liquid for your vape kit, but if you notice your vape juice seems more watery than usual you know there isn’t anything wrong with it.
More frequent vaping
As we mentioned before, many vapers find they use their vape a lot more during leisure time, especially on occasions like nights out. If you are spending a lot more time outside or have got some time off work, you might notice you are vaping a bit more than usual, simply because you have more opportunity to do so.
As we head into the summer months taking these things into consideration can help make sure your vape is kept safe and functioning well, and have you prepared for any changes or factors that could affect your vaping habits during the warmer weather.
