Pod systems are dominating the UK vaping market, with their simple and easy to use design they make a fantastic start kit for those who are just starting out, but are also popular among stealth vapers and those advanced vapers who are looking for a small and discreet secondary device.

Pod systems are so called because they utilise disposable vape pods with built in coils, as opposed to a glass tank with replaceable coils. They come in two varieties; refillable pod devices, which can be refilled with the user’s choice of e liquid, or prefilled pod devices, which utilise a range of pods prefilled with selected flavours of e liquids in a range of different nicotine strengths.

New e-cigarette users will often prefer the prefilled pod devices as their first e-cigarette, as they are some of the most straightforward devices available and require little maintenance and in-depth knowledge. Users who are looking to upgrade from a pre-filled pod system or would like the freedom to choose from a wider range of e liquid flavours and strengths would be better suited to a refillable pod system, which utilises a vape pod which can be refilled a few times, normally with a 50/50 e liquid, and can then be disposed of and replaced with a fresh pod. What is a vape pod?

A vape pod may refer to either a pod that goes inside of a device, such as a prefilled pod or refillable pod, or it may refer to a vape kit that uses vape pods instead of a tank or clearomiser.

When referring to a pod that goes into a device, this is a small cartridge that is either prefilled with e-liquid or can be filled with your choice of e-liquid.

When referring to a device, known as vape pods or a pod vape kit, a vape pod is a device that has no tank or clearomiser and uses prefilled or refillable pods as it’s form of tank.

How does a vape pod work?

A vape pod consists of a cartridge with a coil pre-built inside of it and this works by a vaper drawing on the vape pod when it is inside of their pod kit’s device. When the user draws on the device the coil begins heating up and vaporising the e-liquid inside, producing vapour which the user can then inhale.

Once a prefilled pod has been used entirely and is now empty of any e-liquid, it is designed to be disposed of and attempting to refill it is not advised as these pods are not designed to be refilled.

A refillable pod however is designed to be refilled until the coil begins tasting burnt.

What is the difference between a vape pen and a vape pod?

The differences between a vape pen kit and vape pod kit are minimal; it is predominantly down to the fact a vape pen kit uses a tank or clearomiser whereas a pod kit uses a pod instead.

A vape pen kit usually consists of a battery also known as a device, a tank or clearomiser and a coil.

A refillable vape pod kit, similarly to a vape pen kit, is comprised of a device, a pod and a coil. This pod can be refilled numerous times until the coil inside begins to taste burnt.

A prefilled vape pod kit is comprised of a device and a pod which is prefilled with e-liquid. These pods are not designed to be refilled and are designed to be disposed of once empty.

What are the benefits of pod kits?

There are a variety of benefits to using a pod kit, as opposed to using a vape pen kit or sub-ohm mod.

Pod kits tend to be much smaller in size than other devices, making them super compact and discreet which makes them great for anyone with an on-the-go lifestyle or for someone who prefers to be more of a stealth vaper as these kits tend to have a reduced vapour production.

These features make vape pod kits great for anyone looking to make the switch from traditional smoking to vaping as they offer a similar experience in terms of draw, nicotine hit, vapour production and are really simple to use.

How long does a vape pod last?

A prefilled vape pod will last the amount of time it takes for the user to go through all of the e-liquid already inside. An average user will approximately get 1-4 days of use out of a prefilled pod, but it is very much dependant on how much it is used.

A refillable vape pod can last anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks depending on how much it is used and ensuring that the pod is always topped up with e-liquid to avoid the coil’s cotton getting dry and burning out.

How do you make your vape pods last longer?

Vape pods can last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks, it is all dependent on how much use it has, along with the e-liquids nicotine content level and the amount of flavourings within an e-liquid.

To get the best life of our both prefilled and refillable pods we always recommend that between each vape you give the pod 10-15 seconds to allow the coil inside a chance to re-saturate with e-liquid and avoid any unnecessary burning.

For refillable pods, ensure that they are always at least half filled with e-liquid to avoid the chance of the coil burning out prematurely.
