There is a lot of information out there about vaping, this is great, but it can seem a bit daunting! Here at Evapo we want to make vaping as straight forward and user friendly as possible and so we’ve condensed some of that information and compiled this list of our top 5 tips for vaping.

Tip #1 – Choosing The Right E Liquid

Finding the right e liquid is so important. Where possible we would highly recommend going into a store where you are able to try all of the flavours available before purchasing. Even more important is finding the correct strength of nicotine. Using an e liquid that is too weak could mean it will not satisfy your nicotine cravings, whereas an e liquid that is too strong could be quite harsh on the throat and could even lead to headaches and not using the device. For more information on e liquids and their contents make sure to check out our post What’s Inside My E Liquid?.

Tip #2 – Understanding Your Device

If you buy your vape kit new from a store the sales assistant will usually offer to set up the device and show you how to use it. Alternatively, if you buy your device elsewhere, looking online to familiarise yourself with the device is an excellent idea. Either way, it is always a good idea to read through the user manual that comes with the device.

Tip #3 – Vaping Safely

All devices we stock are as safe as possible, but once you bring the device home it is important that you continue using it safely to get the most out of your vape device. The points raised in Tip #2 are a good place to start, but there are some other precautions you can take in order to vape safely.

  • When it’s in your pocket, lock it or turn it off!

If you are keeping your vape device in your bag or pocket it is easy for the fire button to get held down without your knowledge. If this happens, you run the risk of your coil burning out and the device getting rather hot, not to mention the horrible smell! To help prevent this, many devices have a lock function which will be detailed in the user manual, such as 5 or 3 clicks to lock/unlock the device. Alternatively, turning the device off will serve the same purpose!

  • Protect your glass tank!

If your tank has exposed glass, you run the risk that the glass could shatter. Not only would this be messy but the small shards of glass could cause lacerations. Putting a vape band around your tank can help to prevent this as it will act as a shock absorber.

  • Look after your batteries!

If your device takes external batteries they need to be well looked after; if plastic wrap on the outside of the battery becomes damaged at all the battery could be dangerous to use. For more information on battery safety, give our post on Vaping Battery Safety a read!

Tip #4 – Device Maintenance

In order to ensure the long life and optimum performance of your e cig, it will require a small amount of maintenance.

  • Change your coil regularly!

It is normally reasonably easy to tell when your coil needs replacing. A burnt coil will give your juice an unpleasant burnt or bitter taste. If your coil is not replaced regularly, it can make the draw feel unusually tight or decreasing vapour production, and feel quite harsh.

  • Keep your drip tip clean!

If you often keep your e cig in your pocket or bag, you can sometimes find you get a build up of pocket lint in the drip tip. To clean your drip tip, simply insert a rolled up tissue or a Q-tip into the mouthpiece and clear out any lint.

  • Remember, your device goes where you go!

Some people will find their device will get that much more mucky than other peoples, if for example you are working in construction or outside. In this case you will need to clean your device more often, but cases and skins are available to help to protect your device at work.

Tip #5 – Travelling With Your Vape

When taking anything vape related on the plane, it all needs to be taken in your carry-on baggage. The same rules that apply to all liquids apply to e liquids too. Bottles cannot contain more than 100mls and are to be stored in a clear plastic bag. Besides this, the rules for vapes are airport specific, so it is a good idea to contact the airport you are flying from to check you are compliant. Gatwick airport has a really helpful page on their website here. It is also a good idea to empty your tank as the pressure on the plane can make it leak!

Depending on what country you are travelling to, the laws regarding vaping may not be the same as those in the UK. So as not to find yourself in any trouble we recommend doing a little bit of research before your trip to brush up on the laws in your destination.
