University of East Anglia Research
The University of East Anglia conducted interviews with 40 people who used e-cigarettes to try and quit smoking. The results published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health also saw researchers working with six vape shops across the UK to observe interactions between the staff and members of the public.
The leader of this research Dr Emma Ward said that:
‘We found that vape shops provided effective behavioural support to help quitters stay smoke free’
‘Shop assistants were really keen to understand customers’ smoking preferences and give tailored advice about the most appropriate products. And they were an ongoing point of contact for practical help.’

Public Health England
Public Health England (PHE), a Government Agency part of the Health and Social Care department have recently said that they are urging smokers to try e-cigarettes so they can help give up the habit and suggested that hospitals should begin selling vape kits immediately.
Martin Dockrell, the Tobacco research leader at Public Health England commented on the research by the University of East Anglia saying that it was valuable for vape stores to have staff with a high level of expertise and product knowledge to allow them to recommend the best product for the individual.
‘Specialist vape shops have valuable expertise and product knowledge to offer smokers who want to quit with the help of an e-cigarette. ‘We’ve seen some great examples of these retailers working in partnership with their local stop smoking service to offer smokers a wrap-around package, with tailored behavioural support and practical advice on choosing the right product and getting the best out of it.’
