Whether you prefer a refillable vape kit or a prefilled one, knowing how long it’s likely to last you is a must. Reliable and long-lasting vapes mean you don’t have to worry about them unexpectedly running low and mean you can head out with confidence.
We’ve put together our guide to the longest-lasting vapes of 2026. Dive in for a few recommendations and some handy hints for helping your vapes last longer.
What are the different types of vape?
The three types of vape we will be looking at in this post are:
Refillable vape kits
Vape kits are designed to be reused over and over again. They have rechargeable batteries and can be refilled with your favourite e-liquids whenever needed. They’re the best option if you are looking for a cost effective vape kit and also create less plastic waste than prefilled pod kits.
Devices like the Vaporesso XROS Pro 2, VOOPOO Argus G3 Mini and SMOK Novo Classy are examples of refillable vape kits.
Big puff vapes
Big puff vapes are a long-lasting yet convenient vaping option. They are rechargeable and with replaceable prefilled pods/refills.
Not only are they available in all of the most popular flavours, but they also have a simple design which can work for everyone from new to experienced vapers.
Reusable big puff vapes include devices such as the Elf Bar JoinOne15 Classic pod kit, SKE Bar 15K pod kit and DOJO Blast 10K pod kit.
2ml prefilled pod kits
Finally, if you’re looking for the most simple and easy to use device, 2ml prefilled pod kits are a good bet. They will usually have a very minimalistic design with no buttons or settings; you just need to insert the pod and inhale through the mouthpiece to vape.
These devices tend to be very small and lightweight with the 2ml pods usually offering around 600 puffs each before needing to be replaced, like the Elf Bar 600 or Lost Mary BM600 pod vape kits.
How long does a vape last?
Vape manufacturers advise that a reusable vape kit with built-in batteries can last around 6 months to a year, if it is used correctly and looked after well, before the batteries will start to noticeably degrade. This means that the battery will not last as long between charges and will need to be charged much more often. At this point you will probably want to start looking for a new device.
External batteries, which are used in advanced vape kits, have a similar lifespan with manufacturers advising between 200 – 500 cycles. However, because external batteries are separate from the vape kit, this gives you the chance to replace the batteries only and continue using the same vape kit if preferred.
The length of time your vape kit lasts between charges varies a lot depending on how often you use it. For example, someone who only has a couple of puffs a day will find that their vape lasts a lot longer than someone who partakes more often. However, most vape kits are designed with the aim to last the average vaper for a full day of vaping.
What does the puff count of a vape mean?
Almost all prefilled vape kits will have an estimated puff count, which gives an indication of how many puffs the device can provide per pod change. For 2ml prefilled pod kits this is usually around the 600 puff mark, but for big puff vapes it can be much higher.
The puff count is predominantly determined by the e-liquid capacity. As you can imagine, a device that can hold 10ml of vape juice at a time is likely to offer a much higher puff count than a device that can hold 2ml of vape juice at a time.
Big puff vapes tend to be considered a longer-lasting option because the pod & refill can offer a high e-liquid capacity and will therefore last longer before needing to be replaced. The puff count can be used as a guide to help indicate how long the device may last you between pod changes. For example, the Lost Mary BM6000 pod kit can hold 12ml of vape juice at a time and offer up to 6,000 puffs.
How long do vape coils last?
While vape kits are designed to be constantly used, the tanks or pods contain a vape coil which will need to be replaced regularly.
In the case of prefilled pod kits, the pod and/or refill will need to be changed whenever empty, so the coil is not really of much concern to the user. However, kits with refillable pods or replaceable coils will need to have these replaced whenever the coil starts to taste burnt.
The coil is the component that heats up your e-liquids and turns it into vapour. Its name comes from the fact that it’s typically a wire that’s wrapped around your vapes cotton wicking material, although there are also ceramic coils and mesh coils. As you use your vape kit, the cotton inside the coil will start to burn. You can usually tell the coil needs to be changed when the e-liquid starts to taste burnt or dull. Once you notice this we recommend changing the coil soon, as it will continue to burn out more from this point.
How often do vape coils need replaced?
The length of time that a vape coil lasts depends on a few different things, including what it’s made of, the battery power, your wattage setting, and how often you use your vape. They are easy to replace, however, and replacing them regularly helps to extend the life of your vape and ensure you get the best vaping experience.
If you’re looking for a longer lasting vape coil, then choosing a mesh coil could help if there is one available for your device, as these tend to have a longer use life than standard coils.
What can I do to extend the life of my vape coil?
There are a few things you can do to help your vape coil last for as long as possible, these include:
- Priming your coil before using it for the first time. All you need to do is put a few drops of vape juice on the exposed cotton around the outside of the coil before placing it in the tank, and then letting the coil sit in a full tank/pod of e-liquid for 5 – 10 minutes. This helps to kickstart absorption and reduces the chance of burning a coil.
- Always be sure to choose the right e-liquid for your vape and coil type. Different e-liquids contain different ratios of the base ingredients vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG). Some ratios will be best suited to different types of devices and making sure you choose the right mix can help look after your coil. You can find out more in our guide to different kinds of e-liquids.
- When you’re vaping, make sure you keep your tank topped up and don’t let your e-liquid run dry.
- Leave a little bit of time in between puffs, ideally at least 10 to 15 seconds, to allow the coil to reabsorb your e-liquid.
- If you have a device with buttons that allows you to ‘lock’ or switch off your device, be sure to do so when you’re not using it. This makes it less likely that your vape will accidentally fire in your pocket or bag, burning the coil out without you using it.
