Whether you prefer a reusable vape or the disposable variety, knowing how long it’s likely to last you is a must. Reliable and long-lasting vapes mean you don’t have to worry about them unexpectedly running low and mean you can head out with confidence.
We’ve put together our guide to the longest-lasting vapes of 2025. Dive in for a few recommendations and some handy hints for helping your vapes last longer.
What are the different types of vape?
The four types of vape we will be looking at in this post are:
Vape kits
Vape kits are designed to be reused over and over again. They have rechargeable batteries and can be refilled with your favourite e-liquids or utilise prefilled pods. They’re the best option when it comes to saving money and also create less plastic waste.
Most of our new customers make the switch to vape kits after around three months of enjoying using disposables – although disposables can still be a handy option when you’re on the go.
Reusable big puff vapes
Reusable big puff vapes are a long-lasting yet convenient vaping option. They are rechargeable and with replaceable prefilled pods/refills.
Not only are they available in many of the same flavour options as disposables, but they also have a simple design with a similar feeling inhale, giving a comparable experience with less vape waste and better value for money.
Reusable big puff vapes include devices such as the Lost Mary 4in1, DOJO Blast 6000, and IVG Air 4 in 1.
Big puff disposable vapes
Big puff disposables are a great alternative to 2ml disposables, as they are longer-lasting with a higher puff count. They come prefilled with e-liquid, offering anywhere between 1,500 to 10,000 puffs depending on the brand.
Big puff disposable vapes all utilise different yet like-minded designs to achieve a higher e-liquid capacity. Devices like the PIXL 6000, Elf Bar AF5000, Lost Mary BM6000 come with 2ml of vape juice prefilled into the device and a 10ml refill container, whereas the IVG 2400 4 in 1 comes with prefilled pods that slot into the device.
2ml disposable vapes
These are self-contained vapes that last until the battery has run out and the e-liquid has been used up. They are great for beginners and very useful if you want a simple option for a night out or weekend away. Popular choices include Elf Bar 600, SKE Crystal Bar, Lost Mary BM600, and BrewBox.
How long does a vape last?
Vape manufacturers advise that a reusable vape kit with built-in batteries can last around 6 months to a year, if it is used correctly and looked after well, before the batteries will start to noticeably degrade. This means that the battery will not last as long between charges and will need to be charged much more often. At this point you will probably want to start looking for a new device.
External batteries, which are used in intermediate and advanced vape kits, have a similar lifespan with manufacturers advising between 200 – 500 cycles. However, because external batteries separate from the vape kit, this gives you the chance to replace the batteries only and continue using the same vape kit if preferred.
The length of time your vape kit lasts between charges varies a lot depending on how often you use it. For example, someone who only has a couple of puffs a day will find that their vape lasts a lot longer than someone who partakes more often. However, most vape kits are designed with the aim to last the average vaper for a full day of vaping.
What is the puff count for disposable vapes?
Disposable vape kits will always have an estimated puff count which is provided by the manufacturer. This guide is based on the battery size and e-liquid capacity, but it’s not necessarily the best measure of how long a vape will last, because the length of a puff varies from person to person.
Most manufacturers base their estimates on one second puffs tested using a ‘puffing engine’ that can take thousands of identical puffs. However, it is best to use the puff count as a guide, as how many puffs a device will actually provide really depends on your own vaping style.
Until recently, most disposables were only available with a 2ml e-liquid capacity. However, the vape marketing has upped their efforts in offering more long-lasting options in disposables, whether it be rechargeable or replaceable.
Disposable vapes with nicotine
Due to the e-liquid capacity limits in the UK, most disposables have an estimated puff count of around 600, even though they may have different battery sizes.
That being said, some nicotine-containing disposable vapes may be able to offer a higher puff count, like the Vuse GO 700. These devices still contain the regulated 2ml of e-liquid, but offer an estimated puff count of up to 700, based on laboratory testing.
Disposable big puff vapes
Big puff disposable vapes are one of the most long-lasting options, aside from a refillable kit. Big puff vapes will offer a higher puff count than standard disposable vapes, making them last longer as well as being more cost-effective.
These devices offer more than 2ml of vape juice. Some devices will come with a separate 10ml refill container, which attaches to the device to make it 12ml. Once the total 12ml has been used, they can be disposed of. Popular options include Elf Bar AF5000, Lost Mary BM6000, PIXL 6000, and Titan 10k.
Alternatively, other big puff disposable vapes will offer multiple prefilled 2ml pods that slot inside the device, offering vapers anywhere between 2,400 to 3,200 puffs. Often, this style of big puff disposable vape will allow you to rotate between flavours, offering a more diverse vaping experience. The pods are replaceable and the device is reusable, meaning this option is more long-lasting.
Some examples of this style of big puff disposable include Lost Mary 4in1, SKE Crystal 4in1, and IVG 2400 4 in 1.
Nicotine-free disposable vapes
Disposable devices that don’t contain any nicotine aren’t bound by the same rules and don’t have to limit their e-liquids to 2ml. You can often find nicotine-free big puff bars with a higher volume of liquid and an extended battery life to match, meaning they’ll also have higher puff counts.
Nicotine-free disposables are a fantastic option for those who usually use a low nicotine strength or no nicotine at all, allowing them to choose a convenient disposable device to take with them when needed, without having to use a high nicotine strength that they do not need.
The SKE Crystal Bar nicotine-free disposable vape range contain 2ml of e-liquid per device and can offer up to 600 puffs. They work the exact same as their nicotine range, are available in a choice of 8 of most popular disposable vape flavours as well as some more unique blends.
Why choose reusable vapes over ‘single-use’ disposables?
If you’re looking for a longer lasting vape, then reusable options are the way to go.
They let you:
- Recharge the device/replace the pods
- Don’t need to be disposed of after a single use
- Are much cheaper over time, as they need replaced much less frequently
- Are more environmentally friendly
Another great thing about refillable vapes is the fact that you can choose to change your e-liquid on every fill, letting you enjoy a variety of flavours and swap them in and out depending on your mood. This is true for both refillable/rechargeable disposables as well as vape kits, although kits last longer.
It is important to bear in mind that the disposable vape ban is due to come into effect on 1st June 2025. As this ban includes any vape that is not rechargeable or refillable, many current big puff vapes will be included, such as the Elf Bar AF5000 and the Lost Mary BM6000.
It is likely that these brands will redesign their products to be compliant in the future, but it’s worth considering switching to a reusable vape kit.
Making the switch to vape kits
There are a variety of different reusable vapes on offer and some of them make the switch from disposables to vape kits very easy. For example, prefilled pod kits like the Lost Mary Tappo are a great starter options for anyone considering making the switch, as the device operates in a way that’s very similar to disposables and changing the pod is straightforward, plus they contain a rechargeable battery. You’ll find more inspiration and ideas in our alternatives to disposable vapes guide.
That said, disposables can be handy when you’re on the go and don’t want to bring a whole kit with you. The vape you choose might change depending on what you’re up to. A disposable is handy for a music festival or weekend break, while a long lasting refillable vape is perfect for day to day use.
How long do vape coils last?
While vape kits are designed to be constantly used, the tanks or pods contain a vape coil which will need to be replaced regularly.
In the case of prefilled pod kits, the pod will need to be changed whenever empty, so the coil is not really of much concern to the user. However, kits with refillable pods or replaceable coils will need to have these replaced whenever the coil starts to taste burnt.
The coil is the component that heats up your e-liquids and turns it into vapour. Its name comes from the fact that it’s typically a wire that’s wrapped around your vapes cotton wicking material, although there are also ceramic coils and mesh coils. As you use your vape kit, the cotton inside the coil will start to burn. You can usually tell the coil needs to be changed when the e-liquid starts to taste burnt or dull. Once you notice this we recommend changing the coil soon, as it will continue to burn out more from this point.
How often do vape coils need replaced?
The length of time that a vape coil lasts depends on a few different things, including what it’s made of, the battery power, your wattage setting, and how often you use your vape. They are easy to replace, however, and replacing them regularly helps to extend the life of your vape and ensure you get the best vaping experience.
If you’re looking for a longer lasting vape coil, then choosing a mesh coil could help if there is one available for your device, as these tend to have a longer use life than standard coils.
What can I do to extend the life of my vape coil?
There are a few things you can do to help your vape coil last for as long as possible, these include:
- Priming your coil before using it for the first time. All you need to do is put a few drops of vape juice on the exposed cotton around the outside of the coil before placing it in the tank, and then letting the coil sit in a full tank/pod of e-liquid for 5 – 10 minutes. This helps to kickstart absorption and reduces the chance of burning a coil.
- Always be sure to choose the right e-liquid for your vape and coil type. Different e-liquids contain different ratios of the base ingredients vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG). Some ratios will be best suited to different types of devices and making sure you choose the right mix can help look after your coil. You can find out more in our guide to different kinds of e-liquids.
- When you’re vaping, make sure you keep your tank topped up and don’t let your e-liquid run dry.
- Leave a little bit of time in between puffs, ideally at least 10 to 15 seconds, to allow the coil to reabsorb your e-liquid.
- If you have a device with buttons that allows you to ‘lock’ or switch off your device, be sure to do so when you’re not using it. This makes it less likely that your vape will accidentally fire in your pocket or bag, burning the coil out without you using it.
