Vape Device: Cleaning and Maintenance

Vape Device: Cleaning and Maintenance

It is so easy to forget to regularly clean your e cigarette, we are all guilty of not giving it the attention it needs sometimes. But some of you might not have realised that your e cig needed to be cleaned or required any maintenance, or do not know how to go about it.

In this post we will be expanding on how to clean and maintain your e cig, and the importance of doing so.

Why is Device Maintenance Important?

Many e cigarettes have lots of nooks and crannies in which lint and dirt can build up. Although it may not be obvious, over time this build up can impair the performance of your device and even make you mistakenly think your device is broken.

Regular maintenance also includes changing your coil. A burnt coil can be quite unpleasant and can make even the tastiest e liquid taste harsh and gross! If you are unsure about changing your coil check out our post When and How To Change A Coil, we also recommend taking a look at the user manual for advice that is specific to your device.

Alternatively, you can take your device into one of our 25+ UK stores and one of our friendly team members will be happy to show you how to change and prime your coil.

How to Clean Your Tank

Most tanks will have some form of airflow, a gap that allows air to be drawn into the coil. Sometimes this airflow can get full of lint and dirt, especially if your device is regularly kept in a pocket or bag.

If your airflow becomes blocked it can make the draw feel unusually tight, meaning you will have to work much harder to get a pull on your e cig than normal. If you are able to disassemble your tank in a way that means you can get to the inside of the airflow chamber then you will simply need to clean inside to ensure any dirt is removed, a Q-tip works particularly well for this task! However, if you are unable to get to the airflow on your device you can try blowing hard into the mouthpiece.

If you have variable airflow ensure that it is completely open when doing this. Blowing into the mouthpiece should help to dislodge any blockages, it is a good idea to hold a tissue near the device when doing this so as not to send gunk flying all over the place! Alternatively, a small pair of pincer tweezers can be used to pick out any blockages.

It is also a good idea once in a while to disassemble your whole tank and give it all a good clean. Using something like kitchen towel to wipe the inside of the glass etc. Tissue can also be used but can leave small fibres.

We do not recommend cleaning and re-using coils, and if you choose to clean your tank in water, be sure that it is completely dry and there are no remaining water droplets before putting it back to use. Poking a rolled-up piece of kitchen towel or a Q-tip down the mouthpiece will remove any stray pocket lint and ensure that none of it makes it down into your juice or coil.

How to Clean and Maintain your Device

How often you will need to wipe down your device will depend a lot on where you keep it and where you take it. If you work in construction or outside for example, you will find that you will need to regularly wipe down your mod to ensure that there is not a build up of dust or dirt.

If you have a device with external batteries, regularly check inside the battery chamber to ensure that there is no build up of dust. Other places to check are the gap surrounding any buttons or screens, and the charger/firmware update micro USB port.

If you are concerned about your e cig getting a build up of dust or dirt, or would like some added protection, you can buy skins of cases that should help to protect your mod and keep it clean.
