Ohm Brew CORE FAQ

What is freebase nicotine?

Freebase is a form of nicotine that has been extracted using an alkaline base, and is known for offering a ‘throat hit’ that feels familiar to many people who are making the switch from vaping.

Freebase is available in a variety of strengths so it is easy to match the nicotine strength to your own personal needs. The nicotine absorbs into the bloodstream quickly, but not quite as fast as nicotine salts, making it great for those who prefer to take longer vaping breaks.

How do I know which nicotine strength I should use?

50/50 e-liquid contains an equal amount of vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG).

VG and PG are the two base ingredients in e-liquids that are used to create a vapable consistency and as a carrier for the flavourings and nicotine. VG has a thick, syrupy consistency, whereas PG has a more watery consistency.

50/50 e-liquids have a thin consistency that makes them ideal for devices with small coils.

Which e-liquid ratio is best for my device?

When choosing which nicotine strength to use you want to try and match your previous nicotine intake as a smoker. This will depend on how many cigarettes you used to smoke in a day.

Finding the right nicotine strength will help you to manage nicotine cravings as you make the switch from smoking to vaping, to avoid unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.

We usually suggest the following as a good rule of thumb when choosing your nicotine strength:

Heavy smokers – 20 + cigarettes a day – 18 – 20 mg/ml

Moderate smokers – 10 – 20 cigarettes a day – 10 – 12 mg/ml

Light smokers – up to 10 cigarettes a day – 6 mg/ml

Casual and infrequent smokers – only a couple of cigarettes a day or not every day – 0 – 3 mg/ml

Although you may need to move up or down a strength if you find the e-liquid is too strong or not strong enough.

Which e-liquid flavours are most popular?

50/50 e-liquids have a thin consistency that is easily absorbed by the small coils used in starter kits and pod systems.

Coils vary in size and contain cotton which absorbs the e-liquid in the tank or pod. Small coils have a smaller amount of cotton, and so need a thin consistency e-liquid which can be easily absorbed to keep the coil well saturated while vaping.

However, larger coils like those found in advanced vape kits have much more cotton, and so can absorb 50/50 e-liquids too quickly and become over saturated. This can cause the e-liquid to spit out of the mouthpiece or leak out of the airflow, and so a thicker high VG e-liquid is preferable for use in these devices.
