About high VG e-liquid
High VG e-liquids contain a higher ratio of vegetable glycerine (VG) than propylene glycol (PG). These are the two base ingredients in e-liquids, which are used to dilute the flavourings and nicotine into a vapable liquid.
VG is mainly responsible for the cloud production in e-liquids, and so e-liquids with a high PG content tend to have a larger cloud production.
VG has a thick, syrupy consistency and so high VG e-liquids are best suited to sub-ohm and advanced vape kits which contain a large coil. These coils have large areas of exposed cotton which can easily absorb the thick e-liquid and remain saturated. Whereas smaller coils may struggle to absorb the e-liquid fast enough resulting in dry hits and the coil burning out prematurely, so they are best suited to 50/50 or high PG e-liquids which have a thinner consistency.
Many high VG e-liquids come in short fills, which are bottles of e-liquids larger than 10 ml and come in a nicotine free formula. Each short fill leaves enough room for the addition of enough nicotine shots to produce a 3 mg/ml e-liquid. For example, a 50ml short fill will contain 50ml of 0 mg e-liquid in a 60ml bottle, this leaves room for one 10ml nicotine shot to create 60ml of 3 mg/ml e-liquid.

What are high VG e-liquids?
High VG e-liquids are e-liquids that contain more VG (vegetable glycerine) than PG (propylene glycol). This makes for a thicker e-liquid that is not suitable for all devices.
VG is the ingredient in e-liquids that is responsible for the cloud production, and so high VG e-liquids are known for their thick cloud production in high powered devices. They are best used in sub-ohm devices.
High VG e-liquids are most commonly sold in short fills. These are bottles larger than 10 ml, which contain a nicotine free e-liquid and room to accommodate the addition of nicotine shots if needed.

Who should use high VG e-liquids?
High VG e-liquids are best used in sub-ohm vape kits. These devices use large coils as they are high powered and vapourise much more e-liquid when fired than smaller devices and pod kits. These large coils can easily absorb the thicker e-liquid and remain saturated.
It is not recommended to use high VG e-liquids in starter kits and pod vape systems because the smaller coils may not be able to effectively absorb the thicker e-liquid. This slower absorption can lead to the coil drying out, resulting in dry hits and the coil burning out prematurely.

Are high VG e-liquids bad for coils?
High VG e-liquids are best suited to certain types of coils, and so they can affect the longevity of the coil and quality of the vaping experience if used in an unsuitable device.
High VG e-liquids work best when used in sub-ohm devices with large sub-ohm coils, like those found in intermediate to advanced vape kits.
Beginners vape kits and pod vape kits tend to utilise smaller coils, with small cotton contacts where the e-liquid is absorbed. It is best to use a 50/50 or high PG e-liquid in these devices. If a high VG e-liquid is used in a starter kit or pod system with a small coil it may struggle to absorb the thick e-liquid. As you continue to vape, the coil can dry out leading to unpleasant dry hits and will eventually burn the coil much faster than a thinner e-liquid would.

What is VG?
VG stands for vegetable glycerine, which is one of the main ingredients in e-liquids. It is usually made with soybean or coconut oil and has a thick, syrupy consistency and mildly sweet taste. Vegetable glycerine is an ingredient used in many food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical items such as ice cream, cough syrups and toothpaste.
In e-liquids, VG is used as a diluent, to dilute the flavourings throughout the e-liquid and make it a consistency that is suitable for vaping.
E-liquids can be purchased with different ratios of VG depending on what type of device you are using, which will change how thick or thin the e-liquid is.
