High PG vape juice

Propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) are the two base ingredients in e-liquids, and the ratio of each ingredient will determine the consistency of the overall e-liquid. High PG e-liquids have a thin consistency that is ideal for use with smaller vape kits like starter kits. We take a closer look at the different types of e-liquid in our blog post ‘VG and PG vape juices: everything you need to know’.

High PG e-liquids, like those from Vampire Vape, are most commonly available in 10 ml bottles and can be purchased in a wide variety of different flavours and nicotine strengths ranging from 3 mg/ml up to 20 mg/ml. This allows vapers to find flavours that they love along with a nicotine strength that matches their previous nicotine intake when smoking to ensure they can effectively manage their nicotine cravings and avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Take a look at our high PG vape juice guide below to find out more about these e-liquids and whether they are right for you and your device.

High PG vape juice guide

Different types of e-liquids have different ratios of the base ingredients PG and VG, which in turn makes them suitable for use with different types of vape kits.

PG & VG explained

Propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) are the two base ingredients which are used to make e-liquids. They are what are referred to as diluents, as they are used to dilute the overall composition of the e-liquid into a consistency which can be vaped. They are both clear liquids with a nearly no flavour other than a very light sweetness, this makes them ideal for use in e-liquids as they do not affect the overall flavour.

They each have their own part to play in an vape juice, VG is responsible for the vapour production and PG acts as the carrier for the flavourings and nicotine to ensure they remain mixed through the e-liquid and do not separate.

The VG and PG used in e-liquids is food grade, and they are both actually found in many other everyday products, like toothpaste, baked goods, and medicines.

The ratio of VG and PG will affect the consistency of an e-liquid, as VG has a thick, syrupy consistency, where PG has a thinner, more watery consistency. The ratio of each ingredient will therefore determine how thick or thin an e-liquid is.

High PG e-liquids

As you may have guessed, high PG e-liquids have a higher ratio of PG than VG, usually 60PG/40VG. This gives them quite a thin consistency and makes them ideal for pairing with starter kits and pod systems.

The reason that these e-liquids work best with these types of devices is because of the size of the coil that they use. These coils have less exposed cotton and are just generally smaller than those typically found in sub-ohm and advanced vape kits, therefore a thin e-liquid is easy for the coil to absorb effectively and remain saturated during use without drying out. High PG e-liquids are usually sold in 10ml bottles, and are available in a wide variety of different flavours as well as a range of different nicotine strengths. This makes them a great option for new vapers, as not only do they pair well with starter kits, but they also allow you to select the exact nicotine strength which best suits your own needs.

Which nicotine strength you need will usually be determined by your previous smoking habits, we have a guide to choosing the right one in our blog post ‘Which strength e-liquid should I use?

FAQ about high PG e-liquid

What are high PG e-liquids?

High PG e-liquids contain a higher ratio of propylene glycol (PG) than vegetable glycerine (VG). This makes for an e-liquid with a thin, watery consistency.

These e-liquids are great for using in starter kits and pod systems with small coils, as they are absorbed very easily by the cotton inside the coil. This helps the coil remain well saturated during use and will ensure a consistent flavour and vaping experience.

High PG e-liquids are most commonly found in 10ml bottles. This allows them to be sold containing nicotine, which lets the user choose from a wide range of nicotine strengths from 3 mg/ml up tot 18 mg/ml to find the one that best suits their needs.

Who should use high PG e-liquids?

High PG e-liquids work best in devices with small coils, such as starter kits and pod systems. This is because the small coils can easily absorb the thin e-liquid, where they would struggle to remain saturated with a thicker high VG formula.

It is not recommended to use high PG e-liquids in devices with larger coils, such as sub-ohm and advanced vape kits. These large coils have much more exposed cotton than smaller coils, which can cause the cotton to absorb the e-liquid too quickly and become over saturated, resulting in spitting, and leaking.

High PG e-liquids also offer a wide range of flavours and nicotine strengths that make them ideal for new vapers, as they can find the nicotine strength that best reflects their previous smoking habits to help keep nicotine cravings at bay.

Do they make high PG short fills?

High PG short fills are not commonly sold. This is mainly because most people who use high PG e-liquids are new vapers who require a wide range of different nicotine strengths to be able to match their e-liquid to their previous nicotine intake from smoking. Short fills leave enough room to add nicotine, but only enough to create a 3 mg/ml e-liquid, which is too low for many new vapers.

What is PG?

PG stands for propylene glycol, which is one of the base ingredients in e-liquids.

Propylene glycol is a common ingredient in many food, cosmetic, and hygiene products such as cake mix, soft drinks, and dairy products. In e-liquids it is used as a diluent to act as a carrier for the flavouring and nicotine in the e-liquid. Propylene glycol is a good emulsifier, and so keeps the e-liquid well mixed and ensures that the flavour is consistent throughout.

E-liquids with a high PG content have a thinner consistency that makes them best suited to starter kits and pod systems.
