If you’re anything like me your e-cigarette goes almost everywhere with you and is in almost constant use! But we can all be guilty of not always giving it the attention it needs when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. In this post we’ll be looking at the best ways to keep your device clean and working at its best.

Why is device maintenance important?

Many devices have lots of nooks and crannies which can quickly accumulate lint, dust, and dirt. Now more than ever it is important to remember that in these small spaces of your device can harbour germs, and when you are regularly putting the device to your lips, it’s important to keep it clean and hygienic.

Not only this, but over time, the build-up of dust and dirt can actually impair the performance of your device and even make you mistakenly think your device is broken.

Regular maintenance doesn’t just include cleaning the device, but also changing the coil. A burnt coil can taste quite unpleasant and if left for long enough, it can even stop working.

How to clean your tank

Most tanks will have some form of airflow, a gap that allows air to be drawn into the coil. Sometimes pocket lint and dust can make its way into this gap, especially if the device is regularly stored in a pocket or bag.

If your airflow becomes blocked it can make the draw feel unusually tight, changing the feel of the inhale. If you are able to disassemble your tank in a way that allows access to the inside of the airflow chamber, then you can simply clean inside to ensure there is no dust or dirt remaining. If you cannot access the airflow chamber you can try blowing hard into the mouthpiece and using a Q-tip or tissue to remove any dust or dirt that comes out through the airflow. A small pair of pincer tweezer can also be useful for picking out stubborn blockages. Doing this regularly will help ensure your tank is working at its best and keep your vaping experience consistent and enjoyable.

It is also a good idea to disassemble your whole tank once in a while to give it a good all-round clean. Kitchen towel can be used to wipe the inside of the glass, but it is not recommended to use water when cleaning your tank, as even a small amount of water can be damaging to the coil.

When cleaning your tank don’t forget to give the mouthpiece some attention too! Remove the mouthpiece if possible and using a rolled-up piece of kitchen towel or a Q-tip wipe out the inside to remove any stray pocket lint to make sure it doesn’t migrate down to the juice or coil.

Finally, it is never recommended to wash and reuse coils. Water should never be introduced to the coil, and once the cotton has started to burn it cannot be restored. When your coil needs to be changed, simply swap it out for a fresh one to maintain the best flavour and vaping experience.

How to clean and maintain your device

How often you need to wipe down your device will depend on how you store it and where you take it. For example, if you work in construction or outside, it is likely that your device will need to be cleaned more regularly to avoid dust and dirt building up and to keep your device hygienic.

If you are using a device with external batteries, regularly check the battery chamber to ensure there is no build-up of dust or debris. Other parts of the device to check are the gaps surrounding any buttons or the screen, and the micro-USB port.

When cleaning your device, avoid using water or cleaning products. If you feel you need something more than kitchen towel or Q-tips to clean the device, try using an antibacterial or isopropyl alcohol wipe on the exterior, but do not use this on any internal parts of the device.
