Tanks & clearomizers FAQ

What is a vape tank?

Vape tanks, which are also commonly known as a tank or a clearomiser, are the part of a vape kit which houses the coil, cotton and e-liquid, usually made out of metal or plastic and featuring a glass or plastic window for users to see how much e-liquid is left inside.

Standard tanks refer to the fact the tank uses a standard coil which means the ohm resistance of the coil is 1.0 ohms or above. These tanks and coils are designed to be used with high PG containing e-liquids such as 50VG/50PG.

Sub-ohm tanks refers to tanks that use coils with a resistance of less than 1.0 ohms and are designed to be used with high VG containing e-liquids such as 70VG/30PG.

Can you put any e-liquid inside a tank?

Each vape tank is designed to take a specifically type of e-liquid VG/PG ratio, so you can’t put all e-liquids inside of tanks.

Sub ohm tanks, which are vape tanks that use coils with a resistance of 0.9 ohm resistance or less, are designed to be used with high VG containing e-liquids that have a VG content of 60VG or higher.

Standard tanks are vape tanks that feature coils with 1.0 ohm resistance or more and are designed to be used with e-liquids featuring a high PG content of 50PG or higher, such as 50PG/50VG.

For example, 40VG/60PG e-liquids go into a standard tank, whereas 80VG/20PG e-liquids go into a sub-ohm vape tank.

What is the best tank to vape with?

There is no overall best tank to vape with as it is all down to personal preference. Different tanks offer a variety of different functions and features such as an adjustable airflow, compatible with mesh coils, replaceable drip tips, glass expansion compatibility and more.

For all beginners, who have just made the switch to vaping, we recommend using a standard tank with a 50PG/50VG ratio e-liquid. These types of vape tanks tend to be easier to get started with and have a cigarette-like airflow design.

For intermediate vapers we would recommend a sub-ohm tank, this is any tank using a coil with a resistance below 1.0 ohm resistance, with a high VG e-liquid ratio such as 70VG/30PG.

Can you use any tank on any vape?

All vape devices have different requirements for tanks, whether that be the minimum or maximum ohm resistance or power output.

We would recommend checking your devices specifications in the user manual or from the manufactures website before purchasing a new tank, as if your find that your device doesn’t have enough wattage to power your new tanks coil or doesn’t read coils below a certain resistance, then you will need to purchase a new device.

Although some devices can work with other tanks, we would recommend speaking with one of our expert colleagues in any of our vape shops or through our customer service team on live chat, email or telephone.

When should you get a new vape tank?

Vape tanks can last for a long time if they are well maintained, however parts of the tank can wear away over time.

As long as you’re not encountering any specific issues with your tank, and it isn’t damaged, then there is no need to replace your tank necessarily.

If your vape tank is older than a year and you are starting to encounter issues such as your tank consistently leaking, devices not reading the coil or anything else then it may be time to replace the tank.

We would recommend taking a look at our blog post ‘Why Is My Tank Leaking?’ for tips that may solve your issue. If you continue to encounter issues, then pop into your local Evapo vape shop for a colleague to take a look.

Are all vape tanks the same size?

We offer a variety of vape tanks from brands such as Aspire, Innokin, Freemax, HorizonTech and more and they all come in a variety of different shapes, sizes and offer a variety of different features from brand to brand. However, they will all have an e-liquid capacity of 2 ml or less, as this is the maximum allowed by UK law.

When you’re looking at buying a new tank it is vitally important to look at the diameter of the tank to ensure that it sits on your device flush and does not sit over the sides of your device as this might make it be top heavy and prone to falling over; subsequently increasing the chances of breaking your vape tanks glass.
